Blue Mountain Racing

The Vision

A new home for Formula One and MotoGP in Africa, and a world-class destination built to endure.

Bringing Formula One and MotoGP back to Africa

A new home for the world’s greatest racing

Formula One and MotoGP’s return to Africa will not be a return to the past. Blue Mountain Racing presents Cape Town as South Africa’s strongest integrated proposition for a modern motorsport destination: an iconic host city, a purpose-built precinct, an experienced promoter, and a long-term development model that reaches well beyond race week.

“We have 21 races. We should have 21 Super Bowls. They should be week-long extravaganzas that capture a whole city.”
Chase Carey, former Chief Executive of Formula One
The Circuit & Race Infrastructure

A circuit built for a modern Grand Prix

At the heart of the destination is a proposed FIA Grade 1 and FIM-standard circuit, developed from a layout with an established motorsport foundation and refined in partnership with specialist designers, Formula One, MotoGP and the governing bodies as the project advances. The circuit is designed to work with the natural topography of the site.

  • Approximately 4.8 km in length
  • A start-finish straight of at least 600 m
  • A full-throttle straight of at least 1 km
  • Multiple overtaking possibilities
  • Track width of at least 12 m throughout, incorporating natural elevation
  • Grandstand and general-admission capacity of approximately 125,000 spectators per day
  • A great racing spectacle and substantial viewing possibilities
  • A pit and paddock precinct that doubles as convention and exhibition space year-round

Cape Town & the Location

A site built for a major international Grand Prix

The proposed site sits on the N7 corridor north of Cape Town, within an established regional growth corridor. It combines exceptional road, rail and air connectivity with the tourism capacity of one of the world’s great destination cities.

  • Direct frontage onto the N7 with multiple highway interchanges
  • A railway station within walking distance of the circuit precinct (Kalbaskraal)
  • Three airports within roughly 40 minutes, including an adjacent aerodrome
  • Over 8,200 verified hotel rooms within a 40-minute radius
  • A dramatic Table Mountain backdrop for broadcast and arrival

The Wider Destination

A year-round destination

Beyond the circuit, the masterplan integrates a permanent destination designed to operate every day of the year: conferences and exhibitions, live entertainment, a waterfront precinct, hospitality, residential neighbourhoods and space for research and innovation. The Grand Prix is the catalyst; the destination is what endures.

A South African Legacy

A lasting legacy for South Africa

Beyond motorsport, the project is designed to deliver global exposure for South Africa, tourism growth, jobs, infrastructure, local procurement, skills development and long-term regional economic activity, with sustainability and community benefit built into its planning.

Project status. Blue Mountain Racing is advancing the planning, design, approvals, funding and stakeholder engagement required to deliver the project, working across motorsport, government and specialist technical stakeholders. The project does not represent a secured Formula One or MotoGP race, calendar slot or agreement.
